Head Pin or Eye Pin

When choosing between an Eye Pin or a Head Pin, it is best to figure out what exactly you are making.

First, lets talk about the differences. A Head Pin is a piece of metal that had a flat bottom and the rest is straight. You push the Head Pin through your clay, all the way until the flat bottom hits the clay. Then you take some pliers and you loop the tip part that came out of the other side of the clay. A Eye Pin is a metal pin that already has a loop, but does not have a flat part.

If you are making something that will have a flat bottom or you are wanting a more secure hold, then it is best to use a Head Pin.

If you are wanting less work as in having to curl the Head Pin, and a more simple pin, then go for an Eye Pin.

When using either it is best to add some super glue or glaze to secure your pins and keep them from spinning. Also when using an Eye Pin, bend the Eye Pin before inserting it into the clay so it has a better grip than just a straight pin.
